Oxydendrum arboreum (Sourwood) - Qt Super Plugs
Coming in Late Summer 2018!
A quintessentially Appalachian tree, Sourwood's range extends beyond Appalachia into Pennsylvania, Indiana, south to Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida. Sourwood, famous for its bright red leaves that carpet trails in the Southern Mountains and for the sweet honey produced from its blooms, is also an exeptional ornamental.
Sourwood grows best in moist, well-drained acidic soil, though it is fairly adaptable as long as the soil is acidic. Sourwood grows well either in sun or shade, though a sunny location typically causes it to remain a short tree, growing wider than tall. The plus is that blooming and fall coloration is much better in a sunny spot! Sourwood does best at woodland edges or clearings, especially in dry oak-hickory woodlands.
Our 2.25" plugs are 12-24 inches tall.
