Pycnanthemum muticum (Short-Tooth Mountain Mint) - Plugs

$8.95
Size *

Short-Tooth Mountain Mint is a vigorous, interesting native perennial that smells like peppermint.  Dusty-colored plants give way to white flowers backed by bracts that look as if they have been painted, the color resembling the common garden annual Dusty Miller.

Ranging from New England south to the Southern Appalachians, Coastal Plain and Ozarks, Short-Tooth Mountain Mint is typically found in sunny openings, especially where the forest has been cleared or the soil is shallow and thin.

Uses

Short-Tooth Mountain Mint is excellent for planting in large drifts.  The plants fill in quickly, stabilizing soil and preventing weeds from growing.

Because it is strongly scented, rabbits and deer tend to avoid it.

Short-Tooth Mountain Mint also is an excellent pollinator attracting plant, like many of the Mint family plants - When the plants are in bloom in the summer, they hum with activity from all manner of bees, wasps, butterflies and flies!

How to Grow Short-Tooth Mountain Mint

Short-Tooth Mountain Mint is easily grown in average to moist garden soils in full sun to part shade.  The main requirement is a soil that doesn't dry severely in the summer.

Plant Mountain Mint 24 inches apart in drifts of 5 to 7 for best effect; the plants combine with Shenandoah and Northwind Switch Grass very well.

We provide Short-Tooth Mountain Mint both in Quart SuperPlugs and RootMaker 32 Plugs.  Both of these will establish quickly, flowering the same year.
